Parents of German Students
Parent involvement is important to your child's success. Students with parents who are involved in their education typically do better in school than those whose parents are not involved. I encourage you to use this website as a way to keep involved with what your child is doing in class. See their assignments on the Kalender page or vocabulary lists and class notes in the class sections (Deutsch = German and the number corresponds to the level of German). I have also added a school calendar to help you keep track of which school day (green VS. white days) and important school events such as progress reports. You can also see upcoming activities in the calendars or encourage your students to use the Links to websites that can help with grammar, vocabulary, listening and culture.
To get more involved, check out Hampton City's page on parent involvement. I encourage you to keep up with your child's grades on the Parent Portal and check for any missing assignments.
Although volunteering in the classroom is less necessary in high school, there are opportunities if you would like to become more involved. For example you can volunteer with club activities or help chaperone field trips. For other volunteer opportunities, please see Hampton City's volunteer page. If you volunteer in the school please keep in mind that you are working with students and it is necessary to uphold proper decorum and confidentiality while working with the students. That said, the students respond well to community and parent involvement. We have some great children here at Kecoughtan and working with them is a pleasure.
I also encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am always available by e-mail. As stated in the syllabus, I check my e-mail frequently throughout the day and answer all e-mails sent to me before 8pm (sometimes later) on the same day. If you wish to speak to me, please leave a message and I will call you during my planning period or after school hours. My planning periods are:
Green Days, 4th Block (1:35pm-3:09pm)
White Days, 7th Block (12:00pm-1:30pm)
I ask that you please refrain from calling during class time, as I don't like to interrupt my time with your students. However, I promise to return all calls and e-mails within a 24 hour period.
Thank you for helping me make this a successful school year!
